Default River Rock Comparison

I've had questions about the similarities between Vetrofond River Rock & the new odds of Marbled Avocado & Pale Avocado. Here are some pictures so you can see the difference.

I would like to hear your experiences with these colors.

River Rock - reacts with silver really well.

Pale Avocado - very similar to River Rock but doesn't react to silver as well.

Marbled Avocado - similar but has a blue/gray core which shows up in the bead. I love this color but it's VERY SHOCKY!!!

Vivian,
I also thank you for this thread. I'm hoping others will post pics here of other glasses that are close to or are as beautiful as River Rock.
I can hardly wait to get these two glasses I have ordered so I can see what my Silver glasses do over top of them!

Thanks everyone, I don't think you can go wrong with any of those colors as long as you don't mind the shocky marbled avocado.

I really hope some other people will jump in and show some pictures. I actually like the blue/gray in the marbled avocado because it reminds me of denim. Since River Rock is gone, the others seem to be pretty good substitutes.

The blue/gray in the marbled avocado looks just like my Dark Lichen. I did rounds with silver wire and the color is almost identical.

This is the Marble etched. If you mix it around as you melt it on the mandrel, you get some light blue spots.

Vivian-very cool thread-thank you! I love your beads and these are no exception.
I get similar reactions:
River Rock: Lots of cool veining.
Marbled and Pale Avocado: not as much reaction to silver as the RR.

Kevan--Wow--I wish mine got those cool blues popping up! Gorgeous goddess bead as always--oh my!

Thanks for the pics!

I don't have pictures, but I made some test beads with the new Lt. Avacado. It doesn't marble and web the way River Rock does all by itself, but it looks about the same if you mix it with Dk. Ivory. I like it but it's not a substitute. The rods from the second shipment aren't as shocky, but you do have to watch it if you don't want pieces flying. I got mine from LBSupplies if you want to avoid the more shocky rods.

I think everyone should call or write to Frantzartglass.com and ask them to make the River Rock glass rods again. I know it was an odd lot, meaning pretty much that it was an abberration. I think if they have some, and they do, they can putz around enough to find the formula for the odd lot. I could live my whole glass beadmaking life with black, dark ivory, River Rock and clear glass (with some silver, of course!) Let's give it a try. I called today.

Love that goddess Kevan!

This is all three smooshed together with silvered ivory and some enamels

Ms Frit, you'll have to get Vetrofond to make the River Rock, it was their odd lot and I believe it was an accident. I don't think it will ever be replicated.

I'm disappointed now! I have some River Rock supply that is getting low and have been trying to find it again. I purchased this sometime this spring but don't remember where! I agree with everyone! I love the marbling and I like combining it with the reactive double helix glasses, expecialy Gaia. Shout out loud if anyone runs across some! I did come across some "avocado" river rock by Vetrofond that I've ordered and I'm really hoping that it's at least close to the same thing!

Hey, that's not the bead I had in there before. What's up with that? It's not etched or marble. lol Geez.

Try the light fossil. Reacts with silver and etches good too.
