O2 Holding Tank "Destroy Date"

I thought you all might get a kick out of this.

Never thought of these having a service life until I was
rerouting cords and saw that on the leg...

Careful with those old ChiCom air tanks !!!

I wonder how many Chinese tanks are out there waaaayyy
out of their service date and being used at normal service
pressures ?

Hmmm.... Had not seen that before....

I know propane tanks and high pressure "gas" cylinders have a "recertification" date, but a destroy date????

Will have to look over my tanks again....

"Due to internal corrosion, do not use the
tank beyond the destroy date stamped
into the leg of the Tank"

Myself included, many people do not blowdown their air/oxygen tanks often enough and even more do not have a moisture trap in the system. I do not think it is much of a problem in a oxycon holding tank system as they by nature are pretty moisture free. I would do an internal examination when my tank got near the destroy date however just to reassure myself it was not likely to burst/leak/fail.

First off, I just thought it was humorous, it is certainly nothing to
worry about.

Given what we are putting into these tanks there is not going to
be much chance of rust.

The air that comes out of concentrators is dehumidified, the zeolyte
absorbs any water in the air.

(The moisture trap is only needed for the input side, to extend the
life of the beds.)

Even after 20 years, if this thing blows with the 2 PSI I can probably
get up to if I close my O2 valves for 15 minutes it was never ready
for it's normal 125 PSI service pressure.

I am gonna go waaaaayyyyy out on a limb here and wager that the
internal pressure relief on the regulators in my concentrators will let
go long before the tank will ever fail.
