Default Glass issues

I recieved a lot of the boro glass I have by buying Mr Smilie's shorts. My problem is I don't know what they are. I've used some transparent green that stayed transparent green as a base for my Christmas trees and I love it but I don't know what it is to order more.

I also used a variety of different opaque greens for the outsides of my trees and one of them tuned kinda red. I don't want that. But I don't know what any of those are either. Can anyone help me out here?

That's the problem with Boro.
The glass is clear, then it turns yellow when you
heat it up and comes out of the kiln blue .

My advice to you would be to order one of the sampler
kits from Glass Alchemy or Northstar.
Here's a few available

Check (call) with various vendors to see if they have any sales
going on (the sale prices do not show up on their websites
frequently). I know that Vaporglass is having a sale right now.
Pretty much ALL the vendors are excellent and will match sale prices if you
ask them.

Try out the rods, and then decide which colors you like the best and
order in 1/4 to 1/2 pound of them.

The colors you should have in qty depend on what you are trying to
do. Obviously, you should stock heavy on the clear glass in various
sizes. Again, it all depends on what you want to make.
There are a few thread on here about what colors are people's favorites.
Do some reading before you make your final selections.

And, beware of "cheap" boro. There's usually a reason it's cheap.

Thanks Karen. I do have lots and lots of clear in different rod and tubing sizes. Of course I have lots of AP and DAP. I have 2 and 3 rods of a few different colors and sample size rods that are marked. Thanks for the head's up about sale prices. I'll keep that in mind. I know I want some Loch Ness. I have some Momkas multi color rods that I'm not actually sure what to do with. Some of them make great miliflori. But it is gonna be a little while before I can place a nice order so I gotta make due with what I have on hand. I have pounds of un marked shorts that I feel I need to use before I can justify a big purchase.

A year or two ago there was an Bulk Buy type thing where you could order directly from the supplier and get a GREAT discount and I got lots of frit and some colors I can't quite master - Tequila sunrise for one.

Nancy, I have a ton of those shorts too. What I do is make up a whole bunch of twisties then put them in pendants. Never know what you are going to end up with, but sometimes it is pretty darn cool!

The transparent, stay green might be Paris green. The one that turned red could be any of the exotics.

Like a lot of boro addicts, Brent may also horde glass too, so some of those shorts might be out of production

The best consistent transparent green I've tried so far is Paris Green.

I believe the bulk buy you are referring to is from Glass Alchemy.
Every Valentines day, they do a "we love our customers" sale.
They offer stuff at really low prices.

Karen that is good to know. Maybe by then I can save my pennies and order some stuff I want. I think my problem is I just don't know what to do with what I have. I don't have the exact glass mentioned in the few boro tuts I have and am just not familar enough to know what I can substitute for what. I have about 4 different lusters and am clueless why I wanted them or what I wanted to do with them! (Indigo luster, Carmel luster, Purple Luster, and Spring Luster). Amazon bronze and Carmel. Blue spruce and Ruby blues. I don't know why I wanted any of them or what to do with them.

winship designs will sell you a single rod of colors you think you want so you can try them. I love that. I was simply buying a pound of everything when I first started and found I have lots of colors I simply do not like in any application I try.
