Well I tried one of these in boro just now. I think it is only the third piece I've even done with hard glass so there is a slight learning curve there because I don't know what colors are what or how they are supposed to be worked for striking or color development...BUT I think I did pretty good.
I was most pleased that my punty snapped off clean! Yay...that really trips my trigger. If it is the ugliest hummingbird anyone has ever seen I still won't care because my punty connection was sublime. LOL
My wings sucked. I am kinda used to that fold technique because I use it for fish fins and stuff in soft glass, but the boro didn't get soft enough in the flame for me to get the 'feel' for it. I am working with a minor on an oxygen concentrator so my flame isn't really as hot as it should be. I will have to practice more with that and use thinner rods next time.
My favorite part was the beak. If I were doing this in soft glass it would have been a struggle not to let the tip of the beak ball up and look stupid. With boro, I could get a nice sharp point on the beak even after reheating several times it stayed sharp. Good thing all I have is a ziploc bag of shorts in boro or I could be seriously addicted.
Thanks again for the tutorial, Mike! If it isn't too embarassing, I'll post a picture of my little hummer.
~~Mary

Hi All -
Just wanted to let you know I saw this post in another one of Mike's tutorials thread that his hosting site was temporary so I am guessing he's working on another. Here's the "quote" from the other thread:
Natty,
Yes I will do one. But I'm running a little behind right now and it will take me a few days to get to it. Too, I have been using a demo version of a web hosting service to post my tuts, and I would like to wait a few days befor I go ahead and get the web hosting service started. I would say by the end of the week it will be up and running. Then there will be a steady stream of tuts coming.
Thanks,
Mike
Hope this helps you out.

Please keep in mind this was also my first night with boro- so you can see just how great Mike's tutorial is!
I lost at least one wing on each and one got a sideways tail- I've learned a bit more about heat in the glass with this one which was a great side benefit!
