Default PSA...Green Aventurine Ribbon Cane

Does not play well with others. Of the 4 one came out of the kiln with cracks, the other 2 cracked while I ground the backs flat. The one with the gold aventurine frit is fine. Anyone else had this happen? What do you suppose the green is made with...spinach?

are you mixing ANY glasses with differing COEs? Are you garaging the green color for extended periods? Aventurines are finicky and dont like to be garaged.

Everything is effetre, except for the orange petals which are CIM. I've used loads of gold aventurine over the years with no problems, this green ribbon cane is something new, a pre-made flat ribbon. The layer of green is at most 1mm thick, , I swiped it on SUPER thin, it just looks magnified. Oh well. Glad I didn't make any more!

and don't forget that ASK clear is less than compatible. If you happen to be using it we can never get it to work with any aventurine.

No, as far as I know it's NOT Devardi, I bought it from Jean at Nortel. No ASK here, just plain old moretti clear.

Is it possible the compatibility problem is magnified if the ribbon is a solid wrap all the way around? It may be more compatible to use green aventurine as frit where it could be a more elastic fit.

Elastic? Glass is never elastic and significant stress is almost always eventually relieved in a negative way.

Some glasses, notably those containing lead, have a more forgiving viscosity and are less likely to create stress failure when combined with other glasses, even those which are less forgiving (described here as "elastic").

Dunno if you've already seen this, but here is a really wonderfully informative thread about COE and compatibility: http://talk.craftweb.com/showthread.php?t=3397

There was a thread in here about green goldstone causing cracking, let me look.

http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=208428

Actually more than one now that I searched so it's not just you. I just encases gold with a trans green since I'm scared of it now. I'm sorry though as those are cool pieces.

ETA: seems to be when it's encased, I have to wonder now if it's a COE of 96 or other ?
