That is a beauty Marcel, and those last fumed pendants you made Dave weren't too bad either, very nice. You are so fortunate to have Bernhard here to help you all. I think I read some where that concentrators are not the best for fuming?

Thanks Mary. I have two concentrators, a 15 and a 20. It seems to work OK for me. Now if I could just figure out ratticello I would be a very happy man.

fuming with an oxycon is no big deal, easy peasy. i think maybe you're thinking of using the heavy silver colors (amper purples, blue moon, amazon's etc) it's hard to get an oxidizing enough flame to keep the haze off.

Thanks Brian, it's going to be smooth sailing from now on! Made my day! I've tried Bashi tut. I am not going something right in there someplace. I'm not holding my mouth right or something. This as close as I have ever got, and it isn't even close.

I thought of showing how I fume silver. Sometimes it is better to see a picture. Sorry, I couldn't take photos of me actually doing it, but I need one hand to hold the fuming rod and the other to hold the work piece - so no hand free to hold a camera. But even so it might help someone to make sense of it all.

for gold fuming I adjust my flame so that all candles are about 8mm long. Turn up the oxy - just when it starts hissing slightly - that is my sweet flame for gold fuming. Again I hold my fuming rod right at the end of the candles and my work piece would be at the same spot as for silver fuming ( about 15cm from the face of the torch).
The work piece should be hot, but not glowing.

With all the tips from everyone here I finally did my first fumed pieces that I'm really happy with.

The first is strictly silver and the second is strictly gold. I'm definitely going to play with this now that I have a "feel" for what is going on and what I'm doing.
Thank you to all you pros on guiding me.

Nice pendants Roberta! I really like the first one. Too cold to play in the studio, maybe next week.

It's cold in my studio too! That's how I like it! Then I can heat it up.
Going out there now to do just that.
Nice pendants Roberta! beautiful.
and lovely work from Marcel as usual.
Marcel your pieces are always so classic, love your work.

It's 28' and breezy here in Hooterville. My studio space is un-insulated. Like that Thermos joke. It keeps hot things hot and cold things cold. But how do it know? Pleasant torching.

Marcel, it looks like you captured the olympic flame! Very nice.

Thanks, I am really happy with them. I couldn't have done it without everyone's tips. Your comments on gold fuming really helped.
