I have some of the Etch Bath - got it at Michaels a few years ago. It's just like you describe color and crystals (mine dissolved with a good mixing). I first used it a few months ago when I ran out of etch-all.

It takes a lot longer to get a good etch than etch-all and sometimes it's not very even. Sounds bad but it gives some really cool effects when you etch the hell out of raku on ivory. The texture it adds (or takes away) is pretty awesome.

For normal etched beads I like the etch all liquid. Easy-peasy.

OK here's an update on the Whink
After 24 hrs of soaking
Dk Ivory 262, White 204, Turquoise 236, peagreen 212,Grass green 216, Lt Lemon 404, Violet 202, Perriwinkle 220, and Pink light 260, along with CIM grape Ape 659, and Plum 658 all etched!
The transparents still have not etched after 48 hrs (24 soak wash and check then another 24 soak)

Edit to add that after 72 hrs of soaking in the Whink... med red, dark red, hades, tuxedo, clear, and a half dozen transparents DID NOT ETCH

I pulled this up because Arlene was looking for some of the etching liquid and could not find it at Micheal's or JoAnns.

If you can still find Meguiars Wheel Brightener Item # D14001 at the auto parts (or order http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/produc...?T1=MEG+D14001 ) It is 10-15% Ammonium Biflouride @ $20 per gallon, where the liguid etchant is 20% Ammonium Biflouride and $20 per 4 oz

CAL-BRITE 4x1 G Coil cleaner and brightner http://www.appliancepartscompany.com...oductid=328965 25%< but has 4-8% Glycolic Acid 32.00 gal

Ammonium Bifluoride Practical (crystal) 500 GM for 94.00 Gallade chemical

Do the research on HF and Ammonium Bifluoride before using

I find the cream to etch more consistently than the liquid and it only takes about 10 minutes.
