Default Need boro expert torch and oxy advice

I am a double agent......working soft glass and boro......on a minor with tanked oxy. I am finding that it takes a considerable amount of time and oxy (me oxy hog) to work the boro......sooooooooo.....I am thinking about a new torch. Is anyone out there still using tanked oxy and if so, what kind of torch? I don't plan to make anything larger than about 2" at this time, just want to be more efficient with time on boro stuff and still be able to work soft glass as well. I see alot of folks talking about oxygen concentrators but my studio partner and I aren't really thinking about that yet. We have easy access to tanked oxy and a cabinet outside the studio to store them (and propane) in. I don't know if this is the exact proper place to ask this question but since y'all are boro folks and that is the reason I want to upgrade my torch, I thought I would toss this out!

Thanks!
Deb

The noisy cricket sounds like it could be a good torch. And a lynx will definitely rock the boro for ya.

A lynx. Awesome torch. You can do almost anything on one of those and certainly anything 2" or smaller.

Thanks! I think the Cricket fits my current budget......I would looooooove to get my hands on a lynx but might have to put it on my Christmas list for the next 5 years!

Keep it coming!

I used a Wale Firebird for a while-it didn't give me enough heat to round a 1 1/2" marble. I could construct the marble with the Firebird, but needed more heat to get it round. So I bought a Carlisle CC. Now I've got plenty of heat for a 2" marble. I have 2 tanks of oxy, each five feet tall-apparently the largest you can get. If I put a back on the marble I guess I get about 7-8. With no backing on the marble (like a flower with petals, leaves and a stem that comes to a point [usually]) I get a few more. I've heard that certain torches are more oxy efficient than others, but I don't know which ones.

It seems like a cc hogs more oxy than a delta. Pmd2s rip through the oxy. It seems from my experience Gtt's use less oxy than other torches i've used. This is just my opinion though.
