I actually had spots for four persons, but one person now has a room mate so I have one apartment left on Murano, the Factory Suite, will sleep three, comes with three king size beds, large jacuzzi bath (big enough for 4 guests),
A view of the Grand Canal, a butler and maid for 50 euros a night....NOT!
Three single beds, a tiny shower so small that when you turn in it clockwise your butt turns the water cold, but if you turn your butt counterclockwise it goes hot, but if you have no butt and a 29 inch waist you would have no problem, and the Factory Suite has a view of a weather beaten factory, no butler, no maid, but stil 50 euros per night per person.
If you want to come for 9 or 10 days I will provide for you at no charge:
Meet you at the airport and help you get to the apartment on Murano
Take you to the co op and show you how to shop in Murano
Point you in the right direction daily.
Stop in and visit artists like Davide Penso, Lucio Bubacco to name a few.
Take you on a walk/boat ride/gondala ride through Venice and the Grand Canal, seeing sights such as the Rialto Bridge, St. Marks Square, my
favorite cheap pizza place (named "3 ducks") a stop at Vittorio Constantini, a sightseeing boat ride through the Grand Canal of Venice, with excellent seats outside where you can get great photos (instead of being in the body press of those who do not know how to get good seats).
A tour of Murano and some of my favorite resturants and a trip to Murano would not be complete without the "Effetre Tour". I am not bragging, but if you go there on your own, do not count on getting a tour of Effetre. You might know the most famous artist on Murano, and unless his name is Lino, no tours. The only reason I can give tours is because I have been a customer of Moretti, Asiro/Moretti and Effetre since 1982, and I spend lots of money there and have done more for promoting beadmaking in the U.S. than any other seller of glass, again not bragging, just stating facts.
I just love showing off Murano and Venice, and not bad for somebody who speaks only three words of Italian!
I guess after food, the highlight of Murano is Effetre. There factory is fantastic, their selection of millefiori if the biggest in the world! If you have ever seen how much glass I have, it is nothing in comparison to the Effetre factory. And the making of the millefiori, the pulling of milliefiori and handpulled colors, the machine making the glass rods, to me it makes Disneyland like a walk in the park.
Ivano Ferro the production manager is the reason why we have 40 handpulled premium colors, he is the reason why your pallet of glass has grown so much in the past ten years. I have only been the messenger, I have only told him what my customers want and he has delivered.
It has been an honor to be your representative at the factory, you have made my life worth living.
Come on and join me there sometime soon.
I guess there is one ritual I love to do everyday, walk down to the bar and order an Italian coffee and a pastry for about 2 euros. And if you are on a budget you can use the coffee maker in the apartment and walk down the street and buy a pastry made that morning and gobble it in the apartment or outside on the bench watching the boats go by.
May is a fine time for Italy!

Hey, Mike, You are the one who hooked me on Murano many years ago. You always have a way with words, even if you only know three Italian ones, LOL. You have made my intrigue for this place only grow with each passing year. Back when I joined your first group to Murano, I never imagined in my wildest dreams where it would lead me in my art glass life. You are THE MAN, Mike .
Thank you for being such a great ambassador for our favorite place in the European hemisphere .
Sincerely,
Ofilia

Rooms gone
The last of the rooms are spoken for. Still waiting for everyone to confirm. If you still want to go, I can find other apartments, and while the apartments that we use are great, being in Murano is not about the apartment you stay in, but what you see and I know those who go will see lots of cool stuff and eat lots of great Italian food.

After reading that article about the layoffs in Murano and the expected doubling of those layoffs in the early part of this year they can probably use the tourisim.
Maybe they will be having big sales on stuff!!! Lucky people, you.
We expect lots of pics!!

Is there a map somewhere of where all of the artists live?
I have to tell you I am more than a little worried about flying out of NYC after the U.S. Air plane crash this week!

Hi Paula, yes there are some great books on directing you to places to check out in Murano and Venice. Not whre they "live", but where their galleries or studios are. If you meet Domenico, he will show you has little blue book from this company I'm going to link you to.
Vianello Libri puts out a couple of most valuable little books of shops in Venice and one for Murano masters.
http://www.vianellolibri.com/
Check out page 2 and see the purple cover book called: "Venice Botteghe". You'll find Vittorio listed in there, as well as other specialites of Venice worth checking out. It is sold in both English and Italian. You can find it easily once you are over there. They sell them at the Museo gift shop in Murano, as well as the "tobacci"/convenient store a few doors down from the apartments where you will be staying with Mike.
The version just on Murano is a blue cover book. "Comprehensive Guide to the Island of Murano" It costs around 20 euro, and worth every cent!
They are tiny books, but pricelss for the information packed in them. Lots of historical information of places already on the extinction list.
Just get your doctor to prescribe you something to knock you out for the trip over seas ! You'll do better sleeping your way overseas. Hope you are taking a direct flight out to VCE from JFK. Those are most uneventful and easier since no connections through other foreign countries ! At least that's how I prefer....

Hi Paula, Well, I'm sorry to hear that .... Seriously, though, whatever you took to get over your fear of bridges, you need to bring with you! The last thing you want is a panic attack when you need to board. These days, if you do anything to rattle the fellow passengers, they do not hesitate to take your ass off the plane! They don't mess around with people talking about "crashing" or anthing to the effect.... Seriously, just take it mellow.
If you don't catch some zzz's on the plane going there, you'll end up having to loose valuable ITALY TIME catching up on sleep!! You don't want to do that, do you ?
Stay calm, watch your movie, do whatever it takes to make you calm! Just remember what rewards await you on the other side of the Atlantic! Traveling to places like this are so awe inspiring . You'll love your time there.

Hahaha. I got over the bridge thing with the Maui kid in the car talking to me at Glass Stock. hehe! I don't have a problem getting on airplanes. I am just very uneasy after the crash in the Hudson that just took place 70 miles from here & almost in my back yard! I am flying out of New York and there will still be birds in the sky. Ugh! I will bring some vampire books and my ipod to stay busy.
I do have a funny story though. 35 years ago when I was a baby I was married for 3 minutes. On the way back from the Islands my ex had a sandwich in a paper bag. Someone asked him what was in the bag and he said "A bomb."
He was on the ground so fast it was not even funny. He never knew what hit him. I just left him there and got one the plane like I didn't know him...heheheh.

OMG , yea, that would NOT be a good joke to say at the airport . So you know then what to do.. keep yourself entertained, bring a nice book on Venice with you and start to to "envision" the times ahead of you !
Now, remember, that recent crash was one plane that left the airport that day... how many flights that day had no incident? It's easier to remember one bad case then the HUNDREDS that were just fine... no worries, TUTTO BENE!
