Iris Gold Frit No. 5
I ordered this iris gold frit and just wondering how do I pull it into a stringer. Is it a matter of heating the chunk and then pulling? Should I encase? How do I use the stuff. It looks way cool in the jar...
Can someone assist me with some explanation?
Thank you.

I use straw yellow, heat the tip of the rod to molten and then dip into the frit. Melt in and do again if you want more, then pull into a stringer. You can use clear or whatever color you like as the base rod.
The other way is to heat a mandrel glowing hot and pick up some frit with it, melt it in and keep adding until you have enough to pull a stringer.
Hope this helps.

Thank you. But these are large chunks, not the medium frit or coarse frit. So, I was thinking do I heat the chunk and then pull a stringer?

Ok, more like Aventurine. You have to use a hotplate or something to slowly heat the chunk of frit before being able to pull it into a stringer. Try going to the free Tutorial section and search for Aventurine I know there is something there.

I got some too and didn't know what to do. What I did was I laid them on the top of my kiln for a while. My kiln is brick and gets pretty hot but not to the point it will melt anything.
Then I picked up a chunk with some tweezers and brought the chunk in the flame. Once a bit was melted I attached it to a 5/32 mandrel, no bead release, just an old wonky mandrel.
Keep melting it until a gather forms or add another chunk and then pull it into a stringer.
Love the stuff!

I'm adventurous, I do heat the chunk, then pull a stringer. Sometimes I use the hot plate, sometimes I just keep the chunk on my torch-mount marver above the nozzle. Sometimes I just pick it up off the table because I dropped it. Basically I just experiment away!
But I first saw the "frit stringer" made on Corina's stringer DVD. I just went from there.
Above all, have fun!
