Default Glass/Lampwork University

Has anyone used this rental service? I cannot afford to buy a lot of videos, especially after getting my set up completed this month.........I overspent on glass & tools already. I like the idea of renting the videos, but don't like the idea that I don't get to pick them, just have to take whatever they decide to send me each month. I know I can tell them I don't want certain ones, and I have a list of those that use glory holes or furnaces (I will never go that big), but what is your opinion of this service?

I've never used that service before but have used www.smartflix.com, their prices are good and you can choose which dvd's you want.

Lampwork University/Glass University are Smartflix packages that give you 3 DVDs/month from a select list for a discounted price. If you're in it for the long haul it might be a good deal - you get to rent 3 DVDs/month for $23 whereas renting 3 DVDs at their regular price costs $30. You don't get to choose the order you receive DVDs, though. I'm thinking of renting DVDs from the Lampwork University list at regular price for a while so that I can start with the ones I am most excited about. If I find that I'm viewing more than 2 or 3 DVDs a month, I'll sign up for the Lampwork University program (which will not send you DVDs that you've already rented at regular price).

I've given Smartflix a try over the past few months and am sorry to say that their service is terrible. I decided to sign up for Lampworking University. They shipped my first DVDs to me and I sent them back within a month (and they acknowledged receiving them). They never shipped my second or third months' DVDs. I filed multiple support requests asking what's going on which they never bothered to answer.

In the meantime they still sent me far too much e-mail advertising their other products. Finally, I got fed up and replied to one of their ads in hopes of getting someone's attention. They never answered but they deleted my account. What a classy company.

I second the terrible vote on smartflix. My dad has gotten charged three times for the same rentals in the last two months. Believe me, if i knew where to post it, the emails would be up right now. Its over the top. Buyer beware is my motto with them after all this.

I rented my first DVD from Smartflix last month, we use Netflix so I had not idea that you could only keep the thing for a week. I had sent it back but still got emails saying I was going to be charged. I emailed them and finally got an email back saying that I had not been charged and that they had someone quit who had worked there from the start and they had to clean up the mess and figure out what was what. I wonder just how small this business really is if one person can cause that much of a problem.
Don't think I'll do that again.
