help! smoke!
guys.... is it normal for a new kiln to smoke a little bit when you first turn it on?
its not an electrical smell and it seems to be working fine, it smells like burning paper - could it just be dust?

Deb,
It is pretty common to have to burn your kiln in. I have been to events where we set up several brand new kilns and there is always that "new kiln smell" lol I can't say you are experiencing exactly that because I am not there.... but yes a "burning" smell is normal for a new kiln.

What Otter said
Even though I burn in all the kilns I sell, there is still a bit of an oder, its the binder burning off.
This may last for 2 firerings.
