Default Poem Contest

I have decided to take the last box of $2 bundles and add in a bunch more and then divide the box into three uneven amounts.

There will be more in the FIRST box
There will be a bit less in the SECOND box
There will even be less in the THIRD box

To win a box, write a poem. Post it on this thread. On Monday evening I will pick the three winners and send them the prize they won.

Now that will be such fun!

Mikey

da rules: like I will make them up as I go, but they will be fair!

There once was a glass man named Mike
Whose schemes I consistently like
I hope to amass
A big box of his glass
'cause no two are exactly alike

Too much of a square.
Dang! I bet that there glass was real purty!

Mikey has done it again,
only this time I won't spend
all my hard earned dough,
to make melting glass so,
If a box to me you will send.

I've come from California to the famous Bash
in the hopes of getting some real good glass.
I found Mikey singing Karoke, with a voice that would choke a donkey
It would not be absurd to be first, second or third for
Out of a box full of glass will come beads of Class.

Winning glass? Oh be still my as*!
There are talented poets on this site,
been proven before, but oh dear Mike,
Would love to have that free glass
arrive at my door! I'm a glass ho!

Never wrote a poem about glass before but I'll give it a try.

Untitled

I'm lost in her eyes,
the fire is bright,
she is my mistress,
she calls to me at night,

I must treat her like a woman,
keep the fire in her heart burning,
And of the things we make together in this life,
will live throughout time,

A everlasting reminder,
We were once together.

My diet consisted of glass
On veggies I said I would pass.
I'm sad to report
My life, it was short
Remember me daily at mass.

Boobies, love sonets and hiaku
with these I cannot compete.
I thought I'd try my hand, a box of glass I could land
But, alas, my poems are just not that sweet.

Thanks, Mike, for all you do!

A girl can hope
or just try soap
get in a boat
and cross a moat

pretend to dare
act not to care
and put on airs
cause there are pairs

To wish for one
baked in the sun
that would be fun
this poem is done

Here is my entry - I do love this thread!

How I long for a glass box filled with new colors
So I can find a way to convert these rods into dollars
To create shells, sparkleys and lots of new treasures
So Mikey can continue to fill my glass pleasures

There once was a man who a glass-filled vault had
One day he decided to throw down the gauntlet
Three boxes of bundles of two dollar glass
Were the prizes he said he wanted to pass
On to three, count 'em three, witty writers of poems
Some cute little ditties, no scholarly tomes
And so he decided to make it a contest
He'd make up da rules on the fly, fair ones, yes
Just a friendly competition and mental challenge
But to take home the prizes our hopes do hinge
So here I am sitting at my monitor staring
When I should be in the studio making beads unerring
Hoping that despite my lack of rhyming talent
My ingenuous effort will be considered valiant
After all I can always make beads on Sunday
And with luck I'll be one of the winners on Monday!

I need no glass
I'll take a pass
on a box of Joy
from the King of glass.

Just wanted to say
Mike rules the day
and makes us smile
it's just his way.

A vendor with heart
he's no old fart
a lost child of the 60's
Just doin' his part.

It's always good to take a chance
and when I win I know I'll dance
to every rod of glass it get
and who will know I made a bet.

It's just too sad that I will win
and no one else will get the bin
of mystery things they'll have to pass
too bad so sad just kiss my glass

With apologies to Edgar Allen Poe

The Bean

Once again a morning dreary as I fight unfocused and so bleary, to regain my faculties clearly, only this and nothing more.

Staggering I stumble as to keep from an ungainly tumble, with great fear of mating face to floor, I flail about even more.

Crashing past the pantry into the kitchen I hope to find my redemption, about the counter I explore, ever mindful of the floor.

Groping for the grinder I ignore my wife’s reminder, to use the beans we ground before, only the freshest I implore.

As I set the pot a brewing, pacing, waiting, and stewing, a fallen bean was my undoing, as I slid across the floor.

Raising such a clatter as my body crashed and battered, my wife springing to see the matter, finding me on all fours.

So at great cost I began to savor the elixir of my labor, as I begged my wife a favor, would she bring one cup more?

If only I had heeded her reminder and forsaken the grinder, using what was ground before was all she said, and nothing more.

So in your quest for flavor please do yourself a favor and be heedful of past labor, least your wife find you on the floor.

Only this and nothing more.

Writers Block

The blank paper laid before me its empty face a decree, that with only the first word it would unlock and unfold its story thus setting me free.

Yet as I stare at it dimly I find it dawning on me grimly that my mind has become unfriendly when it comes to producing the needed prose.

Like a riddle written in a cipher, I feel like an imprisoned lifer held captive by the need of a word or sentence that would loose the mental shackles from me.

As I began to ponder my mind it seemed to wander despite the education afforded me, my parchments of learning ignored my yearning from their dusty frames.

I strain to grasp a concept of a plotline to fill the echoing void of my mind, yet I only find an inner silence mocking me, how can it be.

Sitting I stare and suffer growing frantic with the need to buffer the humiliation of my seeming loss of sanity, followed closely by the remaining shard of vanity.

Succumbing to the knowledge that I would be paying homage to those before me, I poised my pen to paper and swallowed my dignity.

“It was a dark and stormy night…”

LMAO @ Mikelene's poem. wow.

Here's one i wrote last year for a blog post after a (very) frustrating first torch session with copper green:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ode to Effetre Copper Green

Copper green, you are my bane

Copper green, you’re driving me insane!

You spit, you pit, you crack, you shock

Mixing you with certain colours just makes icky schlock

I love you! Why can’t you love me back?

Why must each turn in the flame coat you with gunky black?

I know i can etch you but i want you to shine

and avoid using chemicals that reek worse than turpentine

You’re pale green in the rod, so light, so pretty

But when you come out of the kiln you’re a weirdly deep, bluish verdigris??

Wassup with that, you crazy colour?

You make me want to scream and holler!

You’re making me late with my custom order

The fuglies you’ve given make me want to scream bloody murder!

I start out each time thinking i’ve found just the right blend

then incompatibility, weird colour reactions – you’re driving me off the deep end!

And then just when i think i’ve conquered your tricks

What’s that i hear? Oh noooo, it’s cracking! “snick”

You screwed me, so now i must start again

I hate you! i hate you! you’re no longer my friend!

Oh, I’m kidding, I still love you. I just needed to vent

Let’s go dance in the flame once more seeking mutual contentment…

Mike is the guy with the glass
He gave a lot away at the bash
There's still some left he'd like to share
For the writing of a poem if you dare

That's hilarious. I did the same thing I posted it here last December:
http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/sh...t=copper+green

An Ode To Copper Green

In rod form I love you and can't get enough,
It's when I cremate you the going gets tough.

Your colour is tricky and goes all askew
Transforming from green into two shades of blue

With some shades you develop a big, thick black line,
But with purple, the line looks a lot more like wine.

Under clear, you turn yellow! Why is that, o Green?
When you get too hot there's an odd silver sheen...

You spark and you pit and you hate to be hot,
But in spite of all that I still love you a lot.

Untitled

Why do I love her?
She has burnt me many times when I get to close,
She cuts me and makes me bleed,
Leaving wounds for the world to see,
But such a beauty can arise,
From our symbiotic motions,
We connect with gravity,
Complete cycles of rotation,
The end product is of our own creation.

A love song to Copper Green

Copper green you are so fine,
I want to melt you all the time!
For florals you are such a pretty base,
And you're really lovely to encase.
With frit I find you to die for,
I only wish that I had more.
If anyone does not like thee,
Feel free to send your stash to me!
