Default Free tutorial - Kid-Friendly fish beads

I posted this in the Beads of Courage section, but thought I'd put it here too. I have a link on my website for a kid-friendly fish bead that is great for kids in Beads of Courage. It's really durable and will (hopefully) stand up to their less than gentle handling. Also, there is a link for a heart bead and a butterfly bead, and they are all free. All I ask is that if you download the tutorials and try them, please make a bead and send it to Beads of Courage.

Enjoy.......http://www.dianewoodall.com/pages/FreeTutorials.htm

Hi Lynn, You are most welcome. I also discovered that if you press the bead and let it droop a little so the bottom is a little heavier than the top you can wear it on a cable or chain and it won't flip. Fishes aren't just for the kiddies.

Awesome Diane!!

There is really a need for tutorials like this one for sturdy, durable beads for the kids.

Thank you!

Thanks Diane, this looks great! Tomorrow is a Beads of Courage day for me anyway, so I'll make one of your fish while I'm at it~

Will it stand up to a washing machine? That's where my daughter's fishy bit it

hahaha.....that I can't guarantee. I guess we'll just have to hope they never get grimy enough from all the handling to need a trip to the washing machine.

Another good use for the fish, BTW, is for key chains. I plan to make up a bunch for Christmas gifts this year.

Lovely tut Diane, great photos and so easy to follow.

I'll be firing up the torch tomorrow and making a selection of fish to send off to BOC.

Thanks,
Marianne.

I couldn't resist the temptation to hook this fish and I even made a silver swivel and a little glass bobber. The others are the ones that got away (tail wonkie and by golly one is missing his side fins! How did that one get by me. I will be making more of these to send to BOC hopefully with fins so they can swim like they should. Thanks Diane for the great tut.

Donna, those are amazing! I'll tell you a little secret. When I did the tutorial I also forgot to add the side fins and didn't notice until I was putting the tutorial together and when I got to the part about adding the fin...it wasn't there! Fortunately the fish was still on the mandrel so I popped him back in the kiln, let him get nice and toasty and then took him out and added the fins. Worked like a charm and I was able to finish the tutorial.

Thanks so much for sharing your photos. Now I want to go out to my studio!

Diane-
Thanks tons for posting this...I am very sculpturally challenged and have been looking for something to practice on. I would love to make some of these for BOC and my kids!
I will give them a whirl over the weekend and post pics (if they don't go belly up!).
Thanks again for sharing!
