Default BIG hole mandrels

so i've gone and bought myself some really big hole mandrels - 1/2"

how do i use them?

You'll need to watch your heat control more than with regular mandrels. The larger mandrels seem to suck the heat from the center of the bead so they crack easier. I need to dust mine off and play with it again.

Super heat that puppy - it must glow a soft pink, uniformly. Then only apply glass to the mandrel. Takes me about a minute to get the mandrel hot.

Mine is solid.
The solid, once it is heated up, keeps the heat, which means that I can work for a long time on detailled work, without fearing the bead cracking due to loss of temp on the other side of where I am busy working.
I was not aware that there is hollow ring/bhb mandrels out there!

hmm - the ones that Kristina Logan is using in her DVD are hollow i think - i could be wrong
