Default Making glass pens - I thought there was a tut here

But I now I can't find it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Chris

EDIT: Additional searching has yielded some results (no result from "pen" but apparently "pens" does the trick). I found the Arrow springs tutorial (which is what started me off here, it doesn't explain how to make a ribbed cane...)

Edit # 2: Apparently ribbed cane should be purchased for best results, although now that I think of it, if you used boro, and laid color stringer on clear, it would probably work really well.

Ah well, that gets me started, but any help is appreciated, thanks again.

you can buy ribbed cane, but its not hard to make either... make a barrel shape, not too big, use a knife or edge of some sort and make ribs all around the small barrel,, and pull it cold. Sally Prasch showed this to me up at penland maybe 12 years ago.

the secret to the nibs is to pull it cold so you dont loose the ribbing, and then sand the nib down afterwards

Hey Chris!
I have boro with the texture for holding ink too. Next time I see you, I'll bring some.
Have fun!

I do mine in boro:

Barrel plug of clear (or color if it's your thing). Make sure it's about the diameter you want it to be at the pen connection.

Heat and slice along the length with a razor (keep the metal out of the flame...don't ask)
Attach to the pen, warm carefully so you can twist without losing the grooves, twist pull and flame cut.

Anneal then break the end and smooth slightly to make a writing tip. I do mine on a brick.

The grooves are important since those channels hold the ink via capillary action.
