Default R-200-C

Hi All,
I just tried using Reichenbach's R-200-C which is light copper ruby transparent. The cane is a lovely light copper colour, very transparent. What I got out of the kiln is black! Is there a secret to this glass to keep the original colour? I really want to keep it the colour of the cane.

I was using a neutral flame on my bobcat but it did get pretty hot as i was making hollows.....

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Leslie

Copper Ruby, from my experience, is VERY dark! A little goes a long way and because it's so intense, it's best used as a top color that you let spread out. A solid bead -- like a spacer bead -- made out of copper ruby would appear black. You could try R-200 Copper Ruby Extra Light. It might be easier to work with color-wise BUT I don't think you'll get the light copper color you're searching for with copper ruby.

I've made some nice beads with Copper Ruby, so keep playing around with it!

Also, if you use it with silver foil, that will help it show up better!

Try making some cased stringers. That's what I do with all of my super-dark colors. Take a rod of clear, wrap about 2" with color, heat/melt it in, then pull it out to whatever thickness of stringer you want. Thins out the color really nicely.

I was just looking at that color, because I was trying to figure out a question in the "copper ruby frit" thread. You want the color to be copper, but it's really RUBY. And super dense -- Karen's method sounds like the way to go, definitely.
