Question bar-b-que propane tank regulator ?????

Do you use one? Will it work with setting up a mini cc? I have the torch, oxy con, and hoses - even some new glass to melt, lol.

I have everything but the regulator and I was hoping to just go to the hardware store and pick one up (Lowes or Menards) on my way home from work and I'm reading all different things when I search and now my head is spinning!

Can anyone please help me.

Is there anything I should look out for when getting one? Are there different modles at the store or just one basic type?

If you use one a picture would be awesome!

Thanks everyone. This place is a wealth of information!

Hi Trish, from what Ive seen, the things that hook up to the tank that are on grills are not regulators. They have no way of turning the gas up or down.No guage to read.No way of knowing what pressure you are running.Im sure you could get one rigged up to work, but once you opened the tank you would have to control the propane at the torch but not know the pressure.

Most BBQ tank regulators are fixed pressure regulators. Usually set at 1/4 to 1/3 psi.... And they do NOT come with lefthand thread "B" connector on out put side for connecting to the "twin hose" that is so popular to use with Fuel/Oxygen torches....

This is "typical" only it was assembled from pieces from RV supply store...

Several different types of Propane regulators can be found in following sites....

http://www.tejassmokers.com/gasregulators.htm
http://www.cajunshoppe.com/regulator.htm
http://www.protanksupply.com/regulators.asp

Though you can get "something" at local hardware, home improvement store, I suggest you stay with a quality adjustable regulator for welding applications for a better flow control when used with your torch... You bead is not a hunk of meat or weeds to be burned........

Dale, Thank you so much! Tomorrow I'll be searching for a welding shop.

Jeff, I found that out tonight the hard way, lol.

I didn't think this would be so complicated but when I look back on this in 2 weeks I'll laugh and feel oh so dumb. =)
