Photo Critique Please

I finally figured out how to edit the background out of my pictures (yay!) but I'm still wondering if they need something more. I've been experimenting with camera settings and lights (indoor daylight bulbs and actual sunshine) to come up with some good photos but this bead just seems to need something so maybe someone will have a suggestion.



The bead is made with Copper Ruby frit so it is pretty dark but the picture doesn't show the beautiful garnet color of the frit . Maybe it needs sunlight shining through it?

It looks a little blown out around the edges, so you may have lightened it a bit too much. Try taking the picture in natural light, no flash, like on a window sill. Use a piece of foam board as a reflector (glossy photo paper works well, also, but doesn't stand up on its own).

I think you got a great suggestion...I don't think back lighting will help at all...I think you need more light in the front. I vote for what Shawnette suggested. Nice bead though!

Ok so put it in a window with the sun shining on the front and a white paper or something behind?

Actually bright direct sunlight is worst possible light for bead/glass pictures.... It reduces pictures to bright spots and dark colors... Soft indirect lighting ( analogous to a overcast or foggy day) is best lighting... That is why a lot of people use diffused lighting, like cloud dome or white lamp shade or diffusers in front of light sources... Yes even in sunlight... The better the picture is when taken means less work you need to do in computer...
