New frames for my lenses?
I have a question about our eye protection. Does anyone know if we can get the lenses of the didymiums ground down to fit frames that you can get at Walmart? If it's a coating that might chip around the edges or if it's intrinsic (I think that's the word I want? ) to the glass itself. I want to get smaller frames than the economy ones I have (they tend to give me a headache *immediately* if I answer the phone, or even wear a headband). Anyone know if I can just take them to good ole Walmart and have them fitted to new frames without any issues?

THE didymium material should be a solid glass, not a coated glass...
As for getting them reground... I don't know..... Optician (proper name?) may not want to attempt a regrind... BUT may be able to fit lenses to some new style frames....

Dale, I've got a friend who works at the optical department, so I can wheedle him into it- I'd planned on buying a new pair anyway, so if he kills them, no big deal, but I thought it was worth a shot Josie, I'm bringing mine to Wallyworld tonight, if I can get them done, I'll repost here and let y'all know how it goes

I think whats important is that they keep the way the lense if focused correct....the way they are ground and placed in the frame (if I remember right) has a certain focus distance or something im really not sure of the right way to describe this , but if its cut down and its not kept in the right proportion, center, and what not it will really throw off your focus and what not and cause all kinds of focus havic with your eyes. but since you have an in with the optician dude if they are familiar with the grinding and fitting of lenses he should be able to do that for you. Many of the optical places though send their glasses out for that to be done though.

Since they're not of the prescription variety, should that be a problem though?

I was curious as to having an old pair of lenses ground and fitted to new frames so I called an eye glass shop and the did not grind or re-shape...I believe Mike from Aura mentioned something about custom frames.....you might want to contact him.

Yeah, some shops don't- my hubby got his old lenses ground and put into a new pair for safety glasses for work though, so I know WM does it But then again, I might just go for the AUR-92s and be done with it. I've been using didys since I started, wonder what the difference is when looking through them?

I had prescription lenses done at Auralens. A nice thing about Auralens is that you can send your own frames. I have a pretty small head, so I was worried that their frames would be too big. I bought a fairly inexpensive pair at Costco that fit well and mailed them in. I had the completed glasses back within a couple weeks tops.

Yes. Some people are even sensitive to improperly ground non-Rx sunglasses (me...Shawn T...some others I can think of!!). The more precise the lens (& closer to "perfect" the clearer your vision--think of it as looking through "someone else's prescription" if they got it wrong--because if there is a flaw in the lens, your eye is looking through that flaw (and if you're concentrating on something, be it glass in the flame, driving, whatever, that makes it worse!) & that messes with your vision! It's why I won't wear "cheapie" sunglasses--they may have UV filters in them, but they're not optically processed/ground, so it's like looking through tinted sheet plastic, or a piece of warped window glass close up--instant migraine! Ugh!
When I get my smaller Aura's, I'm just sending a pair of nice sunglass frames in for customizing!! (got some clearance name-brand fashion frames I'd *never* wear as sunglasses due to the lens issue but I love for the fashion look! on sale for like $30 & I want my good lenses put into those!!) Right now I'm just doing safety glasses--it's enough protection on the hothead--(yes, I've read all the threads!)--and I've got a pair of econo didy's if I torch for a long time--but I like the safety glasses better
