Tanks turning themselves back on?
Okay so I have a set of tanks out doors like there supposed to be and I turn them off religiously every night.
some how they keep getting turned back on. My question is I am only human and its cold out there at night once in a while I forget to clear the lines.
Could the pressure be backing the valves back on?
I usually leave the regulators set where they always are should I be turning those back to zero every night?
Or is some hobo keeping himself warm in my trailer? I havent noticed much gas gone but it could be this around where I live.
thanks

I was taught that you have to open the regulators. Otherwise, if I remember correctly, you're leaving pressure in the line AND keeping pressure on the delicate diaphragm inside the regulator, which will eventually damage it, and cause a pressure reading.
How ON are they?

Technically the processes is to turn tanks off...
Go to torch and bleed lines...
Back off adjusting knob/t-bar or regulators...
If you leave regulators set at desired working pressure when quiting for day and turn tanks off, when turning tanks on, the inrush of high pressure "gas" can damage diaphragm in regulator.

dunno about them turning back on. Ghosts maybe?
If you're worried about vandals you could put try finding a way of locking the knob somehow. Realtor lock box perhaps?

Can't happen by them selves........ Little hands......
You need to "secure" tanks....
Perhaps you need to put them in something like this....

Yes its lockable and all you need to do is put some vent holes at base so IF there is a propane leak, it can't pool inside...

Are you doing it in this order?
Turn tank off. Back off regulator until it is loose - it will still show a pressure until you do the next part.
Burn off the remaining propane at the torch.
If you still have a problem, I would suspect the neighbors.

Actually backing off regulator is last step.... You need to bleed line before backing them off so pressure trapped between regulator diaphragm and tank valve is released. IF you back off regulators before bleeding it will continue to show pressure on tank side gauge.

Works for me, but then I have an inside and outside regulator. I back off the inside regulator after the bleed.

I've built a little box that looks like an outhouse to put my tank in. It has holes in the bottom for venting trapped gas if I have a leak and the roof is slanted so I get good rain run off. The lid lifts up like a little hinged box lid. It's padlocked. I have a lot of teenage boys that live in my neighborhood...

Makes me wonder if I should pull in my propane regulator on Halloween. As it is I double lock my shop on nights the neighbors are having parties.

Yes, I always bring in my propane on Devils Night and on Halloween. To many teenagers in my neighborhood.
